Naia’s comic book journey: Raising awareness for Evelina London

As part of our support for Evelina London Children’s Charity, Modern Joinery’s Charity of the Year, we’re sharing incredible stories of young patients who have benefitted from its life-changing care.

First up, we have Naia! A year ago, she faced an unimaginable challenge. Diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, her kidney function plummeted, and she was transferred to Evelina London on her 10th birthday. After a year of dialysis, her only hope was a kidney transplant—and thanks to her incredible dad, she received the ultimate gift in November 2023: one of his kidneys.

Now, Naia is thriving. This past Christmas, she and her family finally celebrated together in Cornwall for the first time in three years. But that’s not all, Naia and her dad have channeled their experience into something truly special: a comic book!

Their action-packed comic, part of the SHIFT series, blends thrilling detective tales with Naia’s own journey at Evelina London, highlighting the hospital’s incredible support.

Naia said: “The last two years have been incredibly tough, but Evelina London has supported me every step of the way. They helped me understand my disease and how to stay strong, both physically and mentally.”

Her dad, Adrian, added: “Comics help kids read and make sense of the world. I wanted to use my skills to give back.”

All profits from the comic go directly to Evelina London Children’s Charity, helping more children like Naia receive the compassionate care they need.

UAP says firemongery “should be treated seriously”

Elliott Dawson, National Accounts Manager at UAP, explains why firemongery is more than a finishing touch.
