The GK Joinery Forest reaches over 400 trees planted

John Grant, Managing Director at GK Joinery, discusses the GK Joinery Forest, in which the company plants a tree for every order received, to give back to the environment.

“We started the GK Joinery Forest to add to the environmental work we were already doing across the business.

“We work with timber every day, so supporting tree planting through JUST ONE TREE felt like a natural fit and another practical way for us to make a positive contribution.

“Our forest has now reached 405 trees. We plant a tree for every order, so as our customers support us, we can support the work JUST ONE TREE does to restore forests, improve biodiversity and help communities.

“Through our partnership with JUST ONE TREE, our growing forest is estimated to remove around 4.99 tonnes of CO₂ each year, or 124.74 tonnes over the next 25 years.

“It’s one part of our wider approach at GK Joinery. We’ve invested in solar panels, electric vehicles and a biomass heater, alongside the sustainable timber products we manufacture and supply.

“We’ve also recently changed our energy supplier so we can buy green electricity to complement the power we generate ourselves.

“There wasn’t one single thing that prompted us to start the forest. We wanted to build on what we were already doing and find another way to increase the environmental benefits we can contribute as a business.

“We don’t have a fixed end goal or a particular number of trees we’re aiming to reach. It’s an ongoing commitment, and we want the forest to keep growing with the business.

“Reaching 405 trees is a lovely milestone, but we see it as part of something we’ll continue supporting.

“Our approach is to keep looking at what else we can do, whether that’s how we power the workshop, the vehicles we use, the products we offer or the projects we support.

“We know there’s always more to do, and we want to keep making practical improvements wherever we can.”
