Latest timber trends report shows yearly fall in timber products sold
The proportion of window and door installers selling timber products has fallen from around 51% in 2015 to just over 44% in 2025, according to the latest PROSPECTManager Window and Door Market Trends report for 2026.
However, despite the decline, the outlook for businesses specialising in quality timber windows and doors is described as the brightest in 50 years, reflecting the significant transformation the sector has undergone since the mid-1990s.
A changing timber market
Looking at some of today’s timber windows and doors, it is easy to forget how far the sector has come.
Once facing a challenging future, timber has been transformed through advances in product design, standards, manufacturing processes and installation techniques.
Companies have also become more effective at positioning and marketing their products, moving beyond a predominantly product-focused approach to better communicate the benefits of timber to customers.
Many timber and joinery businesses manufacture a wide range of products, from staircases and furniture to doors and windows, often responding to whatever customers require. However, increasing competition and challenging market conditions are encouraging more companies to specialise and concentrate on areas of strongest demand.
This shift has contributed to a decline in the total number of businesses manufacturing and/or installing timber windows and doors. However, the prospects for companies specialising in quality timber windows and doors are described as the brightest in 50 years.
What the latest market data reveals
This latest report provides an insight into timber’s position within the UK window and door market.
According to the report, just over 44% of installers sold timber products in 2025, compared with approximately 51% in 2015.
Timber accounts for around 9% of the window and door market by value, while representing approximately 5% by volume. These figures highlight timber’s position within a competitive market, where product choice, customer demand and business specialisation continue to influence the sector.
The report includes further data and analysis to help businesses understand market trends, assess opportunities and make informed decisions.
