Furniture Makers’ Master completes charity abseil

A fearless group of six furnishing industry professionals, led by Master Jessica Alexander, has successfully completed a spectacular 100-metre abseil down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower in aid of The Furniture Makers’ Company.

The challenge took place on Sunday 13 September, with the Master joined by Andy Corbett, Business Director (Comfort Division) at Vita Group; Limun Wells, Head of Sales at Ergochair; Past Masters, Amanda Waring and David Woodward; and furniture conservator Graham Marley.

After stepping over the edge of the 170-metre-tall landmark, each member of the group descended 100 metres while taking in views across Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent.

The team undertook the challenge to raise vital funds for The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry.

Jessica Alexander, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “I think all of us stepped out of our comfort zone when we moved off the platform and onto the wall of the Spinnaker Tower, almost 100 metres off the ground!

“There were wobbly legs all round when we touched down – but a huge sense of satisfaction – we did it!

“We are enormously grateful to everyone who has supported us so far. The challenge may be complete, but there is still time to donate.

“Every contribution will help our charity support the next generation of talent and people from our industry experiencing difficult times.”
