Dare to run

Joinery Network Partner Owen Dare, who has over 40 years’ experience working in the industry, is no stranger to running his own business, having provided his services through OT Dare Joinery Consultants for the past six years and Director of The Joinery Network.

But away from the day job, Owen is also running in the truest sense, smashing personal bests and winning events, all while fundraising for cancer research charities, after his wife (Maxine Dare) needed the help of these charities when going through her own cancer battle.

Owen has only been running for just over six years, but in that time, he has competed in 5km races to marathons and everything in between.

In his first marathon in Manchester in 2017, Owen remarkably finished the race in three hours 14 minutes, which even amazed himself at the time. He then joint a running club Witham RC and is club record holder from 5K to Marathon distance

But since then, he has become Essex County champion for his age at 60 to 65. To become champion, there are seven races across all distances from 5K up to marathon.

But that is not all. Just in 2024 alone, he has broken his personal bests in his last five races, with his best performance coming in April at the London Marathon, where he finished the race in 2hrs 54min and received a silver medal for Male 60+.

Fast forward towards the rest of 2024, Owen is now training for the Berlin Marathon in September, and looking to run in the Masters race, before entering a qualifying race to run for England later on in the year.

And by the 2026, he is aiming to do all of the ‘big 6 marathons’ as part of the Masters with three left to go.

We wish Owen the very best of luck for the rest of the races in 2024 and hope he can break even more PB’s!

UAP says firemongery “should be treated seriously”

Elliott Dawson, National Accounts Manager at UAP, explains why firemongery is more than a finishing touch.
