Andover Soapbox Derby gets vital backing from KJM

On Sunday 31 May, Hopkinson Way in Andover was transformed into a high-adrenaline racecourse for the highly anticipated Andover Soapbox Derby, with home improvement experts KJM Windows & Conservatories as one of the event’s headline sponsors. KJM offered vital financial backing and played a crucial role in covering running costs, event programs, and advertising.

Most importantly, KJM’s involvement ensured that the thrilling community event remained entirely free for spectators, allowing all event-related profits to go directly to local charities. This year, the designated charity was Raising Twenty1, an incredible local organisation supporting children with Down’s syndrome and their families.

Jump the KJM Kicker

Twenty karts tried their luck on the specially built, branded obstacle course. Drivers had to boldly navigate the “KJM Kicker,” the first and biggest jump on the run.  Between 3,500 and 4,000 spectators watched in awe as the gravity-powered carts hit the KJM Kicker, catching a serious amount of “air” and leaping remarkably high before speeding towards the finish line.

KJM’s participation went well beyond simply funding the event. For the first time, the company entered its very own racing team to brave the Hopkinson Way descent. Driven by Charlie Hearmon, with a push start from Josh & Jordan.  KJM Install Manager Brian Harkin took on an official role by assisting with judging the creative and chaotic entries.

Spectators were well looked after, as well as the Soapbox as entertainment, there were loads places to buy food and drink, also there was a sighting of Elvis. Water pistols were freely fired to add an extra level of jeopardy for both drivers and the organisers.

Much needed funds for Raising Twenty1

Reflecting on the success of the race, KJM’s Mark Pearce said: “A huge amount of work goes into organising the event and a special mention should go to the organisers and team of volunteers who work tirelessly on the day. This year was brilliant for the both whole community and the charity as we raised more than £6,000 of much needed funds for Raising Twenty1. KJM will be backing the Andover Soapbox Derby in 2027!”
