Teesside golf day raises £23,000 for Furniture Makers’ Company

The 52nd Teesside Golf Day, organised by independent furniture retailer, Barker and Stonehouse, has set a new fundraising record, raising £23,000 for the furnishing industry’s charity, The Furniture Makers’ Company.

The annual event, which was established in 1974 by Richard Barker, took place at Catterick Garrison Golf Club in North Yorkshire.

More than 80 players from across the UK furniture and furnishings industry came together for a day of golf, networking and fundraising.

The day began with a welcome lunch before players headed onto the course for a shotgun start.

Despite the challenging heat, competition was fierce, with participants battling it out for the coveted trophies. The event concluded with an evening of dinner, prize-giving, a raffle and charity auction, helping to secure another record-breaking fundraising total.

The competition winners were:

  • 1–9 Handicap: William Watts, Baker Furniture – 32 points
  • 10–15 Handicap: Matt Williams, Breasley – 38 points
  • 16–28 Handicap: James Barker, Barker and Stonehouse – 37 points
  • Best Gross: David Johnstone, Sealy – 79 strokes
  • Best Overall: Paul Gundry, David Gundry Furniture – 41 points

The £23,000 raised marks another milestone for the long-running event, which has become a firm fixture in the furnishing industry’s calendar.

The funds will support The Furniture Makers’ Company’s charitable work, providing vital welfare assistance to people working in, or who have previously worked in, the furnishing industry.

James Barker, Managing Director of Barker and Stonehouse, said: “The Teesside Golf Day is a fantastic tradition that brings together people from across our industry for a great day of golf, camaraderie and, most importantly, fundraising for a very worthwhile cause.

“To have raised a record £23,000 this year is an incredible achievement and reflects the generosity of everyone who supported the event.

“We’re proud to continue to support The Furniture Makers’ Company and the important work it does for people across our industry.

“My thanks go to all the players, sponsors and supporters who helped make this year’s event such a success.”

Jessica Alexander, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “Barker and Stonehouse have been loyal supporters of our charity for many years, and it is wonderful to see the Teesside Golf Day continue to go from strength to strength.

“Raising a record £23,000 is a fantastic achievement and testament to the generosity of everyone involved.

“These funds will make a real difference, helping us provide vital welfare support to people in the furnishing industry when they need it most.

“Our sincere thanks go to Barker and Stonehouse, the organisers, sponsors and everyone who contributed to another hugely successful event.”

The next Teesside Golf Day will take place on 11 August 2027.
