TJN Members Day puts timber’s future in focus

TJN Members Day puts timber’s future in focus

Timber window and door manufacturers will get practical insight into forthcoming regulatory changes, compliance, new product developments and opportunities in the replacement market at The Joinery Network’s (TJN) Members Day on Thursday 29 October.

Hosted under the theme ‘The Future is Now’, the event hosted by Teknos (UK) will bring together Lignum manufacturers, technical experts and industry partners to look at some of the changes shaping the timber window and door sector, and what manufacturers can do now to prepare for them and take advantage of new opportunities.

TJN Managing Director Andy Ball says the timing of the event reflects a period of significant change for the industry.

“There is a lot happening in our sector, from regulatory change and new product requirements to growing opportunities for timber in both new-build and replacement markets. Waiting to see what happens isn’t really an option.

“Members Day is about bringing manufacturers, technical experts and industry partners together so our members can understand what is changing and, more importantly, what they can do about it.

“We want people to leave with practical ideas, useful contacts and solutions they can take straight back into their businesses. Networking is also an important part of the day, giving members the opportunity to talk directly to other manufacturers and industry partners who understand the challenges they face.

Preparing for regulatory change

Following a welcome from event hosts Teknos and TJN, Kevin Jones, Technical Director at the Glass and Glazing Federation, will provide a practical look at the regulatory developments affecting timber windows and doors.

His session will cover the Future Homes Standard, potential changes to Approved Document Q, developments affecting listed and conservation properties, and UKCA and CE marking, with an opportunity for members to put their questions directly to one of the industry’s leading technical experts.

The practical focus continues with live workshops from Teknos and the TJN team, including the latest finishes designed for Accoya wood.

TJN will also demonstrate its new Lignum Compliance Suite, a comprehensive UKCA Marking and Building Regulations package being provided to Lignum manufacturers to help them manage compliance, demonstrate conformity and put the necessary factory production controls and documentation in place.

Looking at the market from both sides

The Members Day also welcomes guest speaker Duncan Wright, who will provide a 360-degree view of the timber window and door market.

With 12 years at the helm of one of the UK’s largest joinery companies, together with experience as Managing Director of two successful installation businesses, Duncan brings a perspective spanning both manufacturing and the route to market.

Andy added: “Duncan understands both sides of the supply chain. He knows what it takes to manufacture timber windows and doors successfully, but he also understands what installers need to sell them.

“That gives him an interesting perspective on the replacement market, how demand is developing and where the opportunities for timber could be.”

New developments for Lignum

Members will also get a first look at the latest developments within the Lignum Timber Window and Door System, including new products and initiatives designed to help manufacturers expand their offer and build greater value into their businesses.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities for members to meet TJN’s industry partners, share experiences with other Lignum manufacturers and discuss the practical challenges and opportunities facing their businesses.

The Members Day will also support Harry’s Pals, the charity providing emotional support, counselling and respite breaks to parents following a diagnosis that their child has a severe illness or disability.

Andy concludes: “The timber window and door market is changing, and that creates opportunities for manufacturers who are ready for them.

“The Future is Now is about making sure our members have the information, systems, products and industry connections they need to build the next stage of their company.

“Joinery businesses interested in finding out how The Joinery Network can help their business are welcome to attend. Email hello@thejoinerynetwork.co.uk.”
