Allan Brothers launches lightweight triple glazing

Allan Brothers has reportedly become one of the first British manufacturers to offer TripleEco28, a new ultra-light triple glazing solution, across its Crafted range of solid timber windows and doors.

Whereas conventional triple glazing typically requires thicker, heavier units, TripleEco28 delivers the thermal performance of 40mm triple glazing in a slimmer 28mm profile while being 24% lighter.

As a result, the lighter units allow for larger glazed areas, without bulky supporting frames, while achieving a glass U-value (Ug) of 0.8 W/m²K. With this weight reduction, the units are also easier for installers to handle and fit on-site.

This Ug value allows the Crafted Sliding-Sash and Dual Turn windows to reach whole-window U-values down to 1.1 W/m²K, without adding unnecessary weight or compromising their classic timber appearance.

TripleEco28’s performance comes from its multilayer construction, built around a 1.1mm Monolithic Glass Core.

This ultra-thin central pane reduces the unit’s weight to 22.8 kg/m² compared with 30 kg/m² for standard triple glazing.  It also creates larger argon-filled cavities within the 28mm profile, avoiding the need for expensive krypton as an insulating gas.

In addition, TripleEco28 has two low-E coatings that work together as a double heat-reflecting shield: an inner coating that reduces heat loss in the winter and an outer solar-control coating with a Gg-value of 0.3451, which blocks approximately 65% of solar heat gain.

The glazed units are sasid to have an excellent colour rendering index (Ra) of 95.3, and are available with toughened or laminated glass, for enhanced security and acoustic performance.

As the unit’s Monolithic Core is made from glass rather than synthetic materials, standard TripleEco28 units are highly recyclable at the end of their service life.

Morten Bach Valsted, Managing Director of Allan Brothers, said, “TripleEco28 is a real game changer for us.

“It significantly improves the performance of our Crafted range, and because the units fit neatly into our existing frames, customers lose none of the traditional timber joinery and handcrafted aesthetic we are known for”.
