Donaldson Timber Systems appoints new Head of Technical

UK offsite timber frame manufacturer, Donaldson Timber Systems, has appointed Grant Sanderson as Head of Technical.

Grant has built his career with Donaldson Timber Systems over the last decade. He joined as a Structural Engineer in 2015, before being promoted to Engineering Manager in 2020. During this time, he has reportedly consistently raised technical standards, strengthened pre-construction and engineering processes, and supported colleagues by sharing knowledge and developing others.

With a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from Napier University and close to 20 years of experience, Grant began his career at a structural engineering consultancy in Edinburgh, where he found a niche in timber frame engineering.

Prior to joining Donaldson Timber Systems, Grant also spent three years in the offshore oil and gas industry, providing site and desk-based engineering support for the fabrication of offshore oil production jackets, topsides and wind farms.

In this newly created role, Grant is responsible for leading the full technical function for Donaldson Timber Systems across the UK, including technical coordination, engineering, design development and project governance from tender to delivery.

Commenting on his promotion, Grant said: “I‘m incredibly proud to be taking on this new role and leading such a knowledgeable and experienced team. The people and expertise within the business are what makes Donaldson Timber Systems such a great place to develop a career.

“When I joined ten years ago, I quickly settled in thanks to the support and camaraderie of the team, many of whom are still with the business today and have all played a significant part in my development.

“While I’m settling into the role, my priority will be improving efficiency across our processes to free up more time for the team to focus on the core technical work and enhance our availability for front end support to customers and sales colleagues. This will lead to even better relationships, more accurate information and more capacity for new business. I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to see what the future holds.”

John Smith, Technical Director at Donaldson Timber Systems said: said: “Grant brings deep technical expertise, credibility and insight to this new role. His passion for continuous improvement, innovation and the effective use of technology came through strongly during the interview process and will be key as we continue to evolve our technical capability.

“His forward-thinking approach puts him in an excellent position to lead the technical team and support the delivery of high-quality, compliant and customer-focused solutions. This is a well-deserved promotion and a strong example of our commitment to developing talent from within the business as we plan for the future. Congratulations, Grant!”
