James Latham takes home BWF Sustainability Award

James Latham has taken home the British Woodworking Federation’s (BWF) Sustainability Award, for its introduction and continued commitment to introduce a series of measures to profitable sustainability.

The BWF Sustainability Award was sponsored by Remmers UK, developer of specialised building, repair and protection products, and celebrates projects, initiatives or individuals that demonstrate a commitment to improving the company’s environmental sustainability performance.

BWF Award judges commended James Latham noting that the company has “fully embraced” sustainability. They also praised the company’s commitment to achieving cost and carbon savings through management systems, investment in green energy, and fleet and plant improvements, as well as material recovery processes.

Ewa Bazydlo, Environmental Manager at James Latham said: “We’re extremely proud of our ongoing commitment to sustainability which is embedded throughout our business – from the use of sustainable certified timber products to our carbon calculator which provides customer with product carbon data.

“It’s fantastic to have our ongoing sustainability efforts recognised by the BWF Awards. Through celebrating steps toward more sustainability practices within our sector we can share best practice and learn from each other to move closer to the industry goal of net zero.”

Helen Hewitt, Chief Executive of the BWF, commented “This year’s BWF Awards provided a fantastic opportunity for the sector to come together to recognise and celebrate the projects, businesses and people driving innovation and best practice across woodworking and joinery manufacture.

“Sustainability is a core focus for not only the woodworking and joinery sector but also the construction industry as it aims for the Government’s ambitious net zero targets with the support of the Timber in Construction Roadmap and Future Homes Standard. It’s exciting to see the progress being made at James Latham through the business’ clear understanding of responsible sourcing, its strong drive to improve it and its own ambitious carbon roadmap.

“Congratulations on your award win – I look forward to seeing how your sustainability initiatives continue to grow.”

The prize was presented at a celebratory awards evening on in November at the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
