Modern Joinery’s George Lewis Prepares to Take the Plunge

It’s now just days until Modern Joinery’s George Lewis and Sarah Ball, joined by friends and family, take on the St Thomas’ Abseil in support of the company’s Charity of the Year, Evelina London Children’s Charity.

With fundraising already well underway, George has been reflecting on the challenge and the cause that means so much to him.

He said: “The nerves are definitely kicking in now with only a few days to go. Abseiling down 160ft isn’t exactly something that features in my day-to-day life, but doing it for a charity so close to my heart makes it all worthwhile. Alongside the nerves, there’s also a real sense of excitement.

“Evelina London is a brilliant charity, and it’s been a privilege not only to support them through this abseil, but also by volunteering with them this year. This is way outside my comfort zone, but I’m determined to raise as much money as possible—and to enjoy the experience too. It’s not every day you get to see the sights of London from that height… if I can keep my eyes open, that is!”

Every pound raised will go towards helping Evelina London continue its incredible work supporting sick children, young people and their families.

This includes children like George’s son, Jude, who underwent a five-and-a-half-hour operation in November 2024 to remove the top half of his right kidney after being born with a duplex kidney. Thanks to the expertise of Evelina London’s specialist team, Jude received the best possible care.

The fundraising page for the abseil is live, and George and the team would be hugely grateful for any donations to support Evelina London’s vital work.
