CiiLOCK Engineering’s commitment to sustainability

When Katie Wilson joined CiiLOCK Engineering in April 2024, she was keen to support the company’s mission to help combat the carbon crisis and increase awareness around sustainability.

Katie said: “When I started working for CiiLOCK, I was really impressed by their commitment to sustainability throughout the design process. Every material and feature is thoughtfully decided on and has a clear purpose, resulting in products that are non-wasteful.

“I also like that its hardware is built for long-lasting performance, not only does this benefit our customers but also minimises our land-fill contributions which is especially important today. CiiLOCK’s dedicated approach encouraged me to find out how I can further contribute to our sustainability efforts.

Becoming a SBEN member

Over the last few months Katie facilitated CiiLOCKs membership with the Staffordshire Business and Environmental Network (SBEN). SBEN is a government supported initiative that helps Staffordshire businesses reduce their carbon footprint and work towards becoming Net Zero Suppliers.

Katie has participated in various networking and training events, gaining invaluable knowledge on the current environmental challenges and the steps we can take to address them.

More recently, she completed a Carbon Literacy Training Course which involved in person training and written assessments.

She commented: “The course was intense with a lot of information and, honestly , some alarming statistics about the scale of the Climate Crisis. It opened my eyes to problems that aren’t often discussed in the general media, meaning that many people don’t fully understand the magnitude of the issue.”

All of Katie’s hard work paid off when she passed the training and earned certification as Carbon Literate. The trainers praised her performance, stating: “Congratulations Katie, your pledges were excellent so this was very well deserved”.

Katie concluded: “There are many simple, manageable changes you can make both individually and as a company, from adding a couple of meat free meals to your weekly menu to reviewing your waste management policy.

“As an industry we all need to do our part and not treat our environmental policies as a ‘box ticking’ exercise.  If anybody would like some ideas on changes they can implement, I am happy to chat with you. There is no Planet B, we need to do all we can to protect this planet and all the nature that we share it with”.
