Leitz Tooling plays host to Joinery Network event

The Joinery Network has recently hosted a productive event at Leitz Tooling in Harlow, spotlighting the Lignum tooling system for timber windows and doors.

Joiners from across the United Kingdom attended the informative open day, focusing on the efficient production of timber windows and doors.

The event commenced with a presentation by Owen Dare, who emphasised the distinctive features of the Lignum system. These include its zero-set tooling design, one-pass finish quality cuts, and versatile compliance with industry regulations. Dare also discussed upcoming legislation, such as changes to PAS:22 and building regulations, and their potential impact on the industry.

Following the presentation, attendees witnessed a machining demonstration on a Profil 45Z spindle moulder from Joinery Network affiliate Felder. The demonstration highlighted the production of a flush casement sash and frame, providing an overview of the system, tool changes, and strategies for maximising efficiency on a spindle moulder.

The Joinery Network also invited industry experts to share valuable insights into product performance, security, testing, and market trends. Doug Skins from Secured by Design discussed safety testing, new legislation, and the influence of security on consumer choices. Erin Woodger, Joinery Network Director, presented a talk on unlocking business potential, inspiring employees, and maximising profitability. Karl Sorenson from Gutmann aluminium systems explored the growth of the aluminium window market and its performance benefits when combined with timber.

In addition, the Joinery Network demonstrated the high-performance Passiv Glass. This innovative vacuum glazing solution offers exceptional thermal insulation and weather protection, surpassing triple-glazed products while being significantly lighter.

The day concluded with a tour of the Leitz factory, including the new Leitz UK production centre, a showcase of advanced tool grinding machinery, and a close examination of diamond tool erosion and profiling. The factory tour provided a glimpse into the meticulous attention to detail that goes into every knife, screw, and spacer in the Lignum tooling system.
