A week away for those in need

A week away for those in need

Recently, The Joinery Network Founder Director Andy Ball, alongside his wife and business partner Sarah took part in the Derby Kids’ Camp, an initiative set up to provide free holidays to the local kids most in need of a break.

Andy and Sarah joined 40 plus volunteers to give more than 50 children from around Derby a holiday. Sarah explained how the week went.

“A lot can happen in a week. We kicked off on a Sunday with a walk and water fight, Monday a fabulous walk in Derbyshire. Tuesday we had a trip out to a farm. Wednesday we were on camp with activities including art from Artcore UK and bushcraft from Rhiannon and Sarah. Wednesday night we had to triple check tent pegs ahead of the incoming strong winds. Fortunately everyone was all ok on Thursday morning – as that’s when Andy and I left to go up to Newcastle for the PiGs Newcastle event!

“We got back on Friday afternoon, just a few hours before the talent show which was a huge success. Unfortunately – or perhaps fortunately – there are no photos of Andy dressed as a giraffe  or me as a lion!

“The children loved every minute of their week. They all made new friends and enjoyed the jam packed week. We have all eaten heartily, eating proper home cooked food. Not a simple task in itself and all brilliantly organised and coordinated.”

On Saturday morning it was time to say their goodbyes, first to the children and then after a mamoth clean up, to the rest of the team.

She added: “It’s been incredible to be part of such a team delivering joy and happiness to children that need it most. I haven’t loved every minute, there are times it’s been tough. It’s hard work with long hours, but I would definitely do it again to see the children blossom and grow during the week we spent with them.

“There are too many people to mention individually, but masses of thanks to team leaders Ben & Laila Riggott and of course to Peter and Amanda Ellse from Cosy Direct.

“I already know that friendships made this week, will be with us for a lifetime.”
