TDUK Timber Conference 2025

TDUK shares 2025 highlights

Timber Development UK (TDUK) says 2025 was great year for the organisation. Here, it celebrates some of its most popular features, webinars, events and other outputs from the last 12 months.

Across the many features and news items we published this year, housing proved a popular topic for our readership. Pictured is Chowdhury Walk, winner of the Residential category in the 2025 Wood Awards, which was the subject of one of our most-read articles this year.

Architects Al-Jawad Pike designed a row of 11 terraced houses – providing social housing in Hackney – with each home rotated slightly to create a varied streetscape. You can read the article about this worthy winner with insights from Momentum, the project’s structural engineers.

Another housing-related article that was among our top-read this year was Llama Croft. Inspired by natural materials, architects Seb and Janna Laan Lomas designed Llama Croft – their bio-based home – using timber, clay, and lime.

They teamed up with Tector to monitor the building’s moisture levels – with very positive results. As well as the article, you can also watch the webinar about the project we hosted on the TDUK website.

Case studies

TDUK members read a lot of case studies in 2025. One of our most-downloaded case studies this year explained the design and construction of Rafter Walk, a bold and extremely well-used walkway.

With deck and balustrade made from durable, red-stained hardwood, the striking geometry of the boardwalk’s design was defined by architect Asif Khan.

A very different project, the NMITE Skylon Campus, made for another interesting case study this year. A state-of-the art campus in Hereford and an exemplar of sustainable timber construction, the Centre for Advanced Timber Technology (CATT) and the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) are leading providers of manufacturing and timber education.

Expanding your timber knowledge

Our Knowledge Library was updated and expanded throughout the year, helping TDUK members understand timber and optimise its use. A great example of the resources you’ll find in the Library is the 2025 Embodied Carbon Data for Timber Products.

This is one of many Knowledge Sheets you’ll find in the library that really is an essential resource. Different timber products have different embodied carbon values depending on the energy inputs during processing and transport. The document provides A1-A4 embodied carbon data for all of the most common timber products. Alongside the Knowledge Sheets, you can also read and download wide variety of timber resources such as Designing for Natural Durability and Moisture Management During Construction.

We’re especially proud of Wood Campus, our comprehensive new learning resource. It’s free for TDUK members – your very own school for timber knowledge, where you can take interactive modules on a host of timber topics.

All TDUK members receive print copies of our two quarterly magazines, Designing Timber and Supplying Timber, which can also be read online.

TDUK conferences

The UK Timber Design Conference went from strength to strength this year, treating a sellout audience to a day of fascinating presentations, stimulating panel discussions and valuable networking. And tickets are already selling fast for the next one – taking place on Thursday 2 July 2026. We recently announced the first speakers and sponsors – with many more exciting announcements to come.

The first-ever Women in Timber conference was a milestone for the UK’s timber industry, creating a space for more than 120 women from across the supply chain to gather. It brought together female timber professionals at every stage of their careers. Save the date for next year’s – 1 October 2026.

And lastly, the Global Market Conference kept TDUK members cognizant of the latest industry trends, updates and forecasts – ensuring the timber sector is prepared for a productive 2026.

All of our conferences are great networking opportunities, but if you’re not also using Find Your Timber Partner, then be sure to make the most of your member page and promote your work to the world.

TDUK’s free webinars

Our designTimber webinar series showcased a diverse range of projects from across the UK. And we’ve published details of the 2026 series, starting in February, featuring an even wider variety of timber buildings:  from an acoustic pavilion in a Norfolk woodland, to an infill social housing development in Hackney, and a pedestrian bridge spanning a rejuvenated London dockland.

If you missed any of our 2025 webinars, you can catch up with any or all of them at the TDUK YouTube channel.
