Lighthouse Charity Christmas Lunch breaks fundraising record
The Lighthouse Charity’s annual Christmas Lunch achieved a fundraising record of nearly £290,000 with over 950 attendees. Guests enjoyed entertainment from sports personalities and live auctions. CEO Sarah Bolton praised supporters for their contributions, emphasizing the charity’s impact on the construction community. The event fostered a celebratory spirit and networking opportunities.
A year of fundraising
In 2022, Sarah Ball, founder of Modern Joinery, participated in the Loneliest Road Cycle Ride for Kelly’s Heroes. Later, she and her husband Andy, along with 14 team members, scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro, raising over £100,000 for Kelly’s Heroes and other charities. Sarah expressed gratitude for the support received.
Football fanatics
The glazing industry actively supports local sports, with VBH, a hardware supplier from Gillingham, Kent, sponsoring various teams. Currently, VBH backs Rossvale FC in Scotland and Sutton United FC, while also partnering with Gillingham FC. Their sponsorship enhances visibility, notably through match day promotions and advertising.

Another mixed bag for wood imports in Q3
In Q3 2024, UK timber imports showed growth in softwood, OSB, and engineered wood products compared to Q3 2023, but an overall deficit of 1.2% was noted due to declines in hardwood plywood and MDF.
