John Grant elected Chair of GGF Joinery Network working group

GK Joinery’s John Grant has been elected Chair of the Glass and Glazing Federation’s Joinery Network working group.

John said it was a real privilege to have the confidence of fellow members, and he is looking forward to working collaboratively to support joinery businesses and help represent our sector.

The working group brings together people from across the industry to exchange knowledge, discuss shared challenges and identify opportunities to improve standards and guidance.

John said: “As Managing Director of GK Joinery, I hope to bring a practical, day-to-day business perspective to these conversations.

“One of our immediate priorities will be helping businesses prepare for the Future Homes and Buildings Standards coming into force in 2027.

“The new requirements will bring significant changes for companies involved in the manufacture, specification and installation of windows and doors.

“It is more important than ever that businesses have access to clear guidance and practical support from experienced industry leaders as they navigate these changes.”

John explained that Heritage joinery will also be an important focus for the group.

He said: “Decisions concerning windows and doors in listed buildings currently vary considerably between different areas of the country.

“Although every historic building must be considered on its individual merits, there is an opportunity to encourage clearer guidance and a more cohesive approach to decision-making.

“By bringing together joinery businesses, conservation professionals, local authorities and other stakeholders, I hope we can support an approach that protects the character and significance of our architectural heritage while recognising the value of skilled, sensitive and technically informed joinery.”

He concluded: “My aim as Chair is to ensure the working group provides a constructive voice for the sector, supports businesses through change and helps shape a strong and sustainable future for the joinery industry.

“I’m grateful to everyone who supported my appointment and look forward to getting started.”
