Modern Joinery News visits Fire Safety Event 2026

George Lewis, Editor at Modern Joinery News, discusses his recent visit to the Fire Safety Event at the NEC in Birmingham.

“As Editor of Modern Joinery News, I recently had the opportunity to attend The Fire Safety Event at the NEC in Birmingham for the first time, and it proved to be an incredibly worthwhile experience.

“While the joinery, timber and fenestration sectors remain my day-to-day focus, it was refreshing to step into a different part of the wider construction industry and see another specialist market up close and personal.

“Fire safety, and my reason for being there, fire doors, is such a critical area across the built environment, and the event highlighted just how much innovation, expertise and collaboration exists within the sector.

“One of the main reasons for attending was the chance to catch up with familiar names already known within the industry circles I’m in, including FDM Training & Development, KuhnOdice, UAP, Aluminium Fire Systems and Joinerysoft.

“It was great to see these businesses showcasing its latest products and services while speaking passionately about the role they play within fire safety and compliance, and it looks like, in my opinion, all the above mentioned companies had successful shows.

“Equally valuable was the opportunity to discover new companies and products that were completely new to me. Walking the halls of the NEC offered a real insight into the scale of the fire safety market and the importance of education, testing and product development across the industry.

A particular highlight of the day was listening to a presentation from Andrea Taylor of the Fire Door Association. The presentation was informative, engaging and reinforced the importance of raising standards and awareness throughout the supply chain, and working together as an industry to accomplish this.

“Overall, the event was a fantastic introduction to the fire safety sector, and certainly one I look forward to attending again in the future.”
