Women in Timber: Rosie Wise

In a new series of articles for Women in Timber, we highlight the career paths of women across the timber industry.

Each interviewee will share their experiences, pivotal moments and achievements, and insights into their roles, and celebrating the valuable contribution women continue to make within this sector.

In this article, we introduce Rosie Wise. Rosie was appointed Managing Director of Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery in 2025, following over 15 years in the construction materials sector.

Having held senior roles across marketing, commercial and operations, most recently as Category Director for Timber at Travis Perkins, Rosie brings a wealth of experience and a passion for driving growth, innovation and customer experience.

How long have you been in the industry?

I’ve been in the timber industry for 2.5 years, and in the wider construction materials sector for 17 years.

How did you find your way into it?

I started out in retail after university at Dixons, then moved to Wickes as a product manager for timber. At Wickes I took on roles in marketing, commercial and operations. In 2021 I joined Travis Perkins as Category Director for Lightside products, before moving into timber – where I’ve spent the past 2.5 years.

What was your first role and your first impressions?

My first role in construction was Doors Category Manager. I quickly found a real passion for the products and for improving the category experience for Wickes customers.

What was your pivotal moment?

About three years into my time at Wickes, I was asked to step up as Head of Customer Experience. It was a huge leap at the time, but taking that opportunity taught me the importance of building the right team around you and gave me the confidence to take more chances in my career.

If you were giving your younger self advice, what would you say?

Be yourself and make sure you find a great team with a balance of experience and capability.

Who were your role models – both in and out of the industry?

I’ve been lucky to work with colleagues who not only excelled at their jobs but also made the workplace better for everyone. I’ve always admired people who go the extra mile for what they believe in. I’ve also had some incredible bosses who both supported and empowered me, and I’ve learned so much from them.

What’s the best bit about being a woman in the industry?

You get used to not always fitting in, which, oddly enough, makes it easier to be yourself. That might sound like a contradiction, but it’s been true for me.

Have you faced any challenges, and if so, how did you overcome them?

Every career comes with its challenges. I’ve always believed a problem shared is a problem halved. Asking for help from the right people has helped me overcome things that at first felt insurmountable.

Looking ahead to the future, what’s next for you, your company, and the industry?

I’ve just stepped into the role of Managing Director at Benchmarx and I’m so excited about the potential of this business. I’ve already met so many brilliant colleagues, and I know together we’ll push Benchmarx into its next chapter of growth and success.
