Women in Timber at the Plywood Club of London

Laura Qualters, Membership Development Manager at Timber Development UK, shares her delight at presenting at the Plywood Club of London, speaking about the Women in Timber (WIT) journey so far.

“We were delighted to be invited by the Plywood Club of London to speak at their recent meeting and share the story of Women in Timber.

“First established in 1952, the Plywood Club of London was originally formed to bring the plywood trade together and has since evolved to include members from other areas of the UK wood panel industry, such as the MDF, Chipboard and OSB industries.

“Today, it not only provides space for sharing new products and industry updates but also offers a welcoming social environment where members can meet, network, and build meaningful relationships across the sector.

“Alongside myself was another committee member, Siân Moreton, and we were honoured to present on behalf of Women in Timber.

“Together, we shared how the journey began, what we set out to achieve, and reflected on the success of our inaugural event in September, along with the incredible feedback and support that followed.

“We also spoke about the momentum within the community and the growing sense of connection that continues to build. Discussing our plans for the future – including our next seminar planned for October 2026 – with such an engaged audience was genuinely encouraging and a real pleasure.

“What made the evening truly special was the number of women in attendance which shows the progress already happening across the sector, and a reminder of why initiatives like Women in Timber are so important to our industry.

“The atmosphere, the thoughtful questions and the stories shared by the ladies in the room reinforced the importance of creating spaces where women feel seen, supported and empowered.

“A huge thank you to the Plywood Club of London for inviting us, for their warm welcome, and for championing greater representation of women in timber. We left feeling inspired and even more excited for our next chapter.”

UAP says firemongery “should be treated seriously”

Elliott Dawson, National Accounts Manager at UAP, explains why firemongery is more than a finishing touch.
