TTBS announces new mental health awareness course

The Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society (TTBS) has announced a new initiative designed to support the growing need for mental health awareness and skills within the sector.

As conversations around wellbeing continue to gain importance both at home and in the workplace, the organisation is taking practical steps to help individuals and businesses respond with confidence.

In partnership with MHFA England, TTBS is offering a free one day online Mental Health First Aid course, delivered across two half day sessions. The next course will take place on Tuesday 17 February 2026 and Tuesday 24 February 2026 from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Thanks to TTBS’s collaboration with TDUK, members of TDUK can access up to two complimentary places per company. The training is designed to equip participants with the tools and understanding needed to support colleagues who may be experiencing mental health challenges.

The course covers a wide range of core skills, including how to identify signs of poor mental health, provide first level support, encourage individuals to seek professional help, and practice active listening and empathy.

Attendees will also explore the Mental Health First Aider role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality, and learn self-care approaches to protect their own wellbeing. Participants will gain access to the MHF Aider Support App along with ongoing support beyond the course.

Feedback from previous attendees has been highly positive, with comments such as: “I could not recommend Gemma enough for her excellence in delivering this course” and “the course was fully engaging and everything learnt was informative”.

TTBS aims to train as many people across the industry as possible, believing that widespread participation will help break down stigma, open conversations, and build a healthier workplace culture for all.
