Three professionals from the carpentry/joinery sector have all made this year’s Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2024 semi-finals.

Dave Keyzer, a joiner from Tameside, has reached the semi-finals of Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2024.

Dave, 57, who owns Heritage Joinery, has more than 35 years’ experience working in the trade. Dave showcased his devotion, commitment and professionalism in the initial application, which secured him a place in the semi-finals for the national award.

Dave started his career on the bench at a window manufacturer. He returned to college to qualify as a joiner and start his own business. Dave has since trained many apprentices along the way and over the last two decades has spent a lot of time at his local college to inspire, teach and help other joiners and carpenters.

Dave joins Christopher James, a carpenter from Pembrokeshire.

Christopher, 37, owns Kingsmere Carpentry and Construction, and has more than 15 years’ experience working in the trade. Christopher showcased his commitment to the trade industry in the initial application, which secured him a place in the semi-finals for the national award.

And they are joined by Michael Jones, a joiner and decorator from Downpatrick.

Michael, 38, owns Panelling Perfect, has more than four years’ experience working in the trade. Michael is said to have showcased adaptability, creativity, and professionalism in the initial application, which secured him a place in the semi-finals for the national award.

The trio will compete against each other and 23 other top tradespeople from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, for a chance to be shortlisted as a finalist.

10 finalists will then get the opportunity to take part in the in-person final to be held at Screwfix LIVE, on 27th September 2024. Here, a panel of industry experts will put each tradesperson through their paces before selecting this year’s overall champion.

The winner will be crowned Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2024 and take home a trade bundle made up of tools, tech, and training worth £20,000 / €20,000.

Jack Wallace, Marketing Director at Screwfix, said: “The nation’s tradespeople are often unsung heroes, working tirelessly day in and day out with the upmost passion and dedication. Our long-running national award aims to shine a light on the very best of them, recognising the outstanding work tradespeople deliver and the impact they have within their communities.

“Once again we’ve been blown away by the strength of the applications we’ve received for Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2024. Each of our semi-finalists has already proved themselves as an ambassador for their trade and I wish them all the very best of luck as they look to gain a place in September’s national final.”

The national award is now in its the 15th year. Last year’s winner was Astrid Arnold, a Devon-based carpenter.
