Northern Big Shots raises over £3,500 for industry charity

The industry came together once again for Northern Big Shots 2025, where they said to have enjoyed a day of friendly competition, fundraising and unexpectedly fine weather, raising just over £3,500 for The Furniture Makers’ Company.

Eight teams took part in this year’s clay shoot at Catton Hall Shooting Ground, Cheshire on 13 November, with strong performances across all categories. The winners were:

  • Novice Gun: Yuliia Ivanova – 55/80
  • Intermediate Gun: Gary Sprawling – 54/80
  • Experienced Gun: Giles Hough – 73/80
  • Top Gun: Tom Prestwich – 73/80
  • Top Team: Panaz – 211
  • Unbroken Clay: Phil Eames – 27/80

A tie-break was needed to decide the overall Top Gun, with both Giles Hough and Tom Prestwich achieving impressive scores of 73. In a tense shoot-off, Tom clinched the title and was presented with a special trophy created in memory of industry figure Mark Bedford, who sadly passed away earlier in the year.

The Furniture Makers’ Company extended its gratitude to this year’s sponsors, including Sealy, and to Phil Hopkins of Essential Soft Furnishings for providing the raffle prizes and trophies. Phil has organised the event for the past four years and now steps down from his role, earning heartfelt thanks for his dedication and support.

Debbie Johnson, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “Northern Big Shots continues to be a highlight in our events calendar, bringing the industry together in a spirit of camaraderie and generosity. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, sponsored, or supported the day, helping us raise vital funds for our charity. These contributions enable us to continue our important work supporting people in our industry and nurturing future talent.”
