Kirkwood Timber Frame’s Alan Little scoops Trade Award

Alan Little, Factory Manager at Kirkwood Timber Frame, has won in the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing category at the recent Trade Awards 2025.

Nominated by Safety Scotland, Alan is said to have beat stiff competition to win the title. He was recognised for his contribution towards health and safety and in fostering a safe and supportive work environment.

Alan said: “I am honoured and humbled to have received this award as all those nominated are well respected and skilled in their field. This award is for the whole Kirkwood team because everyone works hard to achieve the highest standards in all areas of our operations.

“I achieved my National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) General Certificate last year and this gave me a really good understanding of the high standards that companies like ours should be striving for. This knowledge has certainly played a huge part in what we have been able to demonstrate as a business, and in turn, being put forward for this award.”

Now in its 13th year, the Trade Awards recognise the outstanding individuals, teams, and projects in the north east of Scotland’s construction industry. The black-tie ceremony, held at Ardoe House in Aberdeenshire, brought together industry professionals to celebrate excellence, innovation, and the future of the sector.

Barbara Massie, Kirkwood Timber Frame’s Business Development Director, added: “This award is testament to Alan’s experience. With over 30 years in the industry his exceptional management style – and friendly and supportive approach – motivates others within the team to work towards a shared goal. I have no doubt that his attention to detail and the meticulous way in which he works, have played a huge part in him earning this award and recognition. Well done Alan!”

The awards are open to all businesses within the construction industry and more than 30 businesses and individuals were shortlisted across the 14 categories.

Mike Wilson, Managing Director at Mearns & Gill, which co-ordinate the awards, added: “This year’s finalists showcase outstanding talent, fresh innovation, and inspiring projects across the board. With winners at every stage of their career, and countless examples of individuals and teams going the extra mile, the entries for 2025 highlight the strength, depth, and resilience of the construction sector in the North of Scotland.

“We’re incredibly proud to host an event that not only recognises this excellence but also brings the industry together for a night of collaboration and celebration. Thank you to everyone who entered and supported the Trades Awards this year, we hope they inspire others to do the same next year.”

Guests were said to be treated to an evening of entertainment from talented local singers Sola and Ellen, before dancing the night away to DJ HomeAlone.

The event was also raising money for local charity Somebody Cares, and guests donated over £4,000 that will go towards their newly launched Christmas campaign.
