Kilimanjaro team smash the Yorkshire Three Peaks

10 of the 15 Kilimanjaro team completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks last weekend as part of their training plan ahead of the climb in September.

The 25-mile challenge covers three peaks, Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside, which are among the best-known hills in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

With spectacular scenery this was a fantastic training day, and a great opportunity for the team to get to know each other better.

The weather was changeable – but everyone in the team was grateful that its wasn’t too hot, cold, wet or windy.

Sarah Ball, organiser of the PiGs charity challenge to support Kelly’s Heroes, said: “We had an awesome day. The team is a fabulous group of people and there was a huge amount of encouragement and banter in equal measures.

“A massive shout out to new team member Gareth Green – who smashed the challenge yesterday despite only signing up for Kili 4 weeks ago. He brought his son Floyd with him who was a huge asset to our walk yesterday.

“Our group split into the ‘fast’ ones – Barry ‘Baz’ Halpin, Mark Towers, Lucy Daniels and Rob Page – who all came in under 12 hours.

“And the ‘mountain goats’ Gareth Jones, Ian Ward, Nat Weaver, Gareth Green AKA Greenie, Andy Ball and I.

“Andrew Charlesworth didn’t join us as he did the Yorkshire Three Peaks the previous weekend for Harry’s Pals. However, his insights were invaluable from the carpark to the placing of the burger van!

“With less than 2 months to go, this was a superb training weekend and showed the readiness of the team for the challenge ahead.

“Thank you to everyone who has already donated to the PiGs AKA People in Glazing Society charity of the year challenge.”
