Generation for Change (G4C) recently hosted a sold-out tour of the brand-new Three Chamberlain Square, Birmingham’s newest commercial landmark and a showcase of its sustainable innovation.

Part of the £1.2bn Paradise masterplan, this 189,000ft², ten-storey office building is redefining what a modern workplace should be—combining heritage, cutting-edge design, and environmental responsibility.

A Design Rooted in Place

Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS), Three Chamberlain Square draws inspiration from Birmingham’s Victorian terracotta architecture. Its façade features 8,000 bespoke terracotta panels and 300 openable windows, creating a distinctive aesthetic while enhancing energy efficiency.

The building sits alongside the Grade I-listed Town Hall, said to blend seamlessly into the city’s historic fabric while “signalling a bold, sustainable future”.

Sustainability at Its Core

Three Chamberlain Square is the first commercial office in Birmingham to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and NABERS 5-star ratings, making it one of the UK’s most sustainable workplaces. The design prioritises low-carbon construction and operational efficiency, with an all-electric infrastructure, demountable façade systems for future reuse, and bio-based materials—including the much-discussed fungi panels showcased during the visit.

The building also promotes active travel and wellbeing, offering 220 cycle spaces, 24 showers, and inclusive, gender-neutral restrooms on every floor. These features align with the industry’s push toward healthier, more inclusive work environments.

An Engaging Event

The sold-out event began with a networking breakfast, followed by a presentation from the project management team, offering insights into the design and delivery challenges of this landmark development. Attendees then toured the building, experiencing firsthand its innovative features and sustainability credentials.

The visit was sponsored by CBRE UK, who will also be among the first occupiers, alongside EY and Forvis Mazars—underscoring the building’s appeal to leading businesses seeking premium, future-ready workspace.

A Collaborative Achievement

Main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine achieved the highest score under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, reflecting exceptional standards in community engagement, environmental care, and workforce wellbeing.

Three Chamberlain Square is more than an office—it’s a statement of intent. By integrating regenerative design principles and pioneering sustainability measures, it sets a new benchmark for commercial development in Birmingham and beyond.
