Excel Carpentry helps CRASH aid charity project

When the construction industry rallies behind a cause, the impact can be life-changing. That was the case recently when Steve Smith of Excel Carpentry Contractors Ltd responded to a call from the Modern Joinery and People in Glazing Society (PiGS) Editor George Lewis to assist with a window condition survey for the homelessness charity CRASH and its work with Emmaus Hertfordshire.

The request came through CRASH, the construction industry’s charity that supports homelessness and hospice organisations with their building projects. Smith, accompanied by CRASH’s Vipesh Mistry and Trisha Pickersgill, visited Emmaus Hertfordshire to assess the property and offer professional advice.

During the site visit, Steve identified an urgent additional need, a replacement fire exit door. Demonstrating the kind of proactive generosity that defines CRASH’s partner network, he used his industry connections to secure a donated fire door, fulfilling a crucial safety requirement for the charity.

The initiative was further supported by Modern Joinery Founder and PiGs ‘Sty Master’ Sarah Ball and George, whose community outreach helped bring the right people together.

Emmaus Hertfordshire provides housing, meaningful work, and support to people who have experienced homelessness. Safe, well-maintained facilities are vital to the charity’s mission.

CRASH continues to seek support from industry partners. Companies willing to donate materials, services, or time are encouraged to contact the organisation at info@crash.org.uk.
