CITB Announces End of Training Group Funding from April 2026
CITB has confirmed that funding for all Training Groups will end on 31 March 2026, marking a significant shift in how levy funds are reinvested across the construction sector. The decision was shared with all Training Groups at a briefing this morning.
According to CITB, demand on levy funds has risen by 36%, while levy rates have remained unchanged. As a result, CITB will redirect investment towards models it considers more cost-effective, such as Employer Networks and the New Entrant Support Team, which it says are delivering broader engagement and greater impact.
A new model to support specialist sectors with upskilling is being developed and will be made available through an open application process. CITB plans to release more information early in 2026.
James Filus, Director of the Institute of Carpenters (IOC), said: “In the context of greater demands on the Levy pot, while also looking to work more closely with businesses through newer initiatives such as Employer Networks, today’s decision does not come as a surprise.
“It is, however, a reality that many businesses in the construction sector have come to rely on their local training group, and this decision will threaten the status quo.”
James says it will continue to update members as further details emerge and as CITB clarifies the transition arrangements for specialist sector groups.
