PWE Advisory Board Sets the Agenda for 2026
Organisers of the Professional Woodworking Expo (PWE) convened a group of industry stakeholders last week to hold the first Advisory Board meeting ahead of the event’s debut at the NEC Birmingham from 17–19 May 2026.
The session brought together woodworking professionals including brand ambassadors Robin Clevett and Derek Barrett, as well as representatives from the British Woodworking Federation, The Joinery Network and DIDAC, who collaborated to identify the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of the UK woodworking and joinery manufacturing industry.
Key themes emerging from the discussion included:
- Innovation: rising demand for thermally treated timber, composites, and safer battery-powered tools, alongside the growing role of CNC, SketchUp, and AI in design.
- Skills & Workforce: the urgent need for clearer apprenticeship pathways, digital skills training, and greater awareness of vocational routes within schools and colleges.
- Business Growth: practical support on cost management, regulatory compliance, and sustainability – with a focus on solutions that benefit SMEs as well as larger firms.
- Expo Experience: calls for more hands-on demonstrations, small brand innovators, and social-first content, ensuring PWE is an inclusive and interactive platform for the full woodworking community.
David Todd, Professional Woodworking Expo Event Director, said: “Professional Woodworking Expo will be the UK’s only dedicated event for this sector, so it is vital we reflect the real needs of the industry.
“Our Advisory Board has provided invaluable insight into the topics, features, and experiences that matter most to woodworkers today. From skills development to sustainability, and from new tools to digital innovation, we will ensure Professional Woodworking Expo 2026 delivers content that drives real value for our visitors and exhibitors.”
The learnings captured will directly shape PWE’s seminar programme, live demo features, and new initiatives such as a Launchpad Zone for innovators, expanded apprentice and skills showcases, and enhanced sustainability content.
