Eco Sash & Case Invests in Timber Manufacturing Machinery

Sustainable construction company, Eco Sash & Case, has announced that it can now manufacture traditional timber arched and shaped sash and case windows.

Eco Sash & Case, an Edinburgh family window business, has recently invested in the latest wooden window manufacturing machinery so it can create complex sash windows for clients in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and the Borders.

Eco Sash & Case’s clients include contractors, builders, surveyors and architects, as well as many homeowners of heritage properties.

Recent commercial window projects have been carried out for Gleneagles, the Balmoral Hotel, the Leddie Hotel, Cala Homes, Silverburn Flaxmill and Monkton House.

‘Reasonably sourced timber’

In keeping with its sustainable ethos, Eco Sash & Case repairs and refurbishes their clients’ historic windows wherever possible or manufactures new wooden windows when necessary. The company uses responsibly sourced timber, and draught-proofs and double-glazes windows to make them more energy efficient. Eco Sash & Case also plants a Scots Pine through Trees for Life for every completed windows project.

“Before our recent investment in window manufacturing machinery, we used traditional tools such as spindle moulders, band saws and four-sided planers,” said Jordan Davidson, Managing Director of Eco Sash & Case.

“We still use these tools but now run most of the windows through our sophisticated CNC machine – this improves the quality of cuts and profiles. It’s also safer, more energy efficient, produces less waste and creates more precise fitting windows.

“Our investment has allowed us to double our manufacturing capabilities and produce very complex, intricate styles of windows more quickly and at a very high quality.

“We can now create curved, shaped and arched bespoke timber windows of the highest quality. So, our new HOMAG 5 axis CNC manufacturing machine allows us to create very precise wooden sash and casement windows for Edinburgh and the Lothian’s many heritage buildings.

“We chose the HOMAG 5 CNC router after carrying out in depth research. HOMAG is well known for being the global leader for state-of-the-art machinery for manufacturing complex wood processing.”

A flexible approach

The HOMAG 5 axis CNC router has 360° flexibility for manufacturing bespoke timber windows and doors.

The new machinery means that Eco Sash & Case can now create complex curves and shapes. Together with their new Prodim digital template, they can measure and plot existing windows very accurately and can quickly produce and custom shaped windows and doors for small construction businesses and large companies. The machinery also uses less energy than traditional woodworking machines, in keeping with Eco Sash’s green ethos. Safety is greatly improved for the joiners who make the windows.

Jordan added: “We worked with HOMAG’s Scottish distributor AWMS who made every effort to get to know us as a business. Their director Rob Herron has been very helpful.

“He clearly knows the machinery inside out – during his visits to our new workshop on the south side of Edinburgh, he spent a considerable amount of time exploring our needs. He wanted to ensure we were getting the right machine, and that’s exactly what we’ve ended up with.”

Eco Sash has also invested in a sophisticated band saw, a four-sided planer, sash cramper and various smaller power tools. Further investments are planned to help improve efficiency, safety, and quality.

Clients also have their windows and doors finished with the company’s new Wagner spraying system which uses the highest quality Remmers paint. This ensures a neat, tough finish.

UAP says firemongery “should be treated seriously”

Elliott Dawson, National Accounts Manager at UAP, explains why firemongery is more than a finishing touch. With scrutiny and regulations tightening, he argues that specification, installation and maintenance need to be treated as seriously as the doors themselves because firemongery is frontline safety. Firemongery rarely makes the headlines. Hinges, closers, latches and seals quietly do… Continue reading UAP says firemongery “should be treated seriously”
