Timber’s 2025 revolution: Opportunities await

Timber’s 2025 revolution: Opportunities await

Luke Piper, Director at B J Waller Ltd and The Joinery Network, discusses his passion for timber, and why 2025 could be the year of opportunity for those using the material.

In the timber industry, the stakes have never been higher or the opportunities clearer. For the past 24 years, I’ve not only worked in this field; I’ve lived and breathed it.

The passion I hold for timber isn’t just about the beautiful products and the fantastic people producing them but about championing a cause that’s vital for our future. With pressing government directives on sustainability, the need to achieve ever-lower U-values, and crucial crime reduction in homes, it’s evident that timber is not just a part of the solution, in my humble opinion, it is the solution!

Unlike other materials that are simply extruded, cut, mitred, and welded, timber offers us unmatched flexibility. This versatility allows us to preserve our cherished English heritage while meeting the stringent demands of current legislation. Timber isn’t just another material; it’s a testament to quality and adaptability. That’s why at B J Waller Ltd, we decided to shift our focus from the broader commercial specification market to deepen our ties with timber window and door manufacturers exclusively. This strategic pivot is fuelled by a belief in timber’s potential to not just participate in the market but to eventually dominate it.

The inception of The Joinery Network six years ago was driven by this very passion. It’s a call to arms for all of us in the industry to unite, to tap into the massive potential that timber presents. The landscape of 2025 and beyond offers fertile ground for those ready to act, not just react. We’re standing before a wealth of opportunities that are frankly smacking us in the face, opportunities to lead, to innovate, and to secure a substantial slice of the market pie. And believe me, it’s a slice we deserve!

Through this piece, I share not just a vision, but to spark conversation, a robust dialogue about where we’re heading and how we can get there together. Let’s not just meet standards but set them. Let’s not just follow trends but forge them. The call to action is simple: if you’re as passionate about the future of timber as I am, let’s chat. Reach out to not only myself, but the fantastic people I have around me, let’s share ideas, and let’s make the timber revolution not just inevitable but spectacularly successful.

For those ready to take up the mantle, remember, this isn’t just about making a living; it’s about making a difference. Let’s roll up our sleeves, get stuck in, and show just how much we can achieve with timber. After all, in an industry as vital as ours, sitting on the sidelines isn’t an option. Join me and many others, let’s lead the charge together.
