A woodland area for all

A woodland area for all

Based in Devon in the picturesque village of North Molton, family business JF Joinery has created a new recreational woodland area for customers, staff and locals to use for picnics, exercise and dog walking.

This exciting venture is part of the plan to make the workshop and showroom a destination centre for timber windows and JFJ Wood Flooring.

John Fanthorpe, MD at JF Joinery had a vision to build a completely sustainable workshop in his home village of North Molton, with the least impact on the local environment.

John says: “It took years of dedication to bring the project to reality. It’s a stunning design and the unique curved roof follows the natural lines of the hillside and means that the 600 square meter factory nestles into its surroundings.

“It wasn’t just the look that we wanted to get right, it was important to us to make the impact of use as low as possible. The solar installation gives us complete self-sufficiency on electric. What we generate on sunny days, pays for our all-year-round usage.

“The latest addition for the business is our new woodland area designed for recreational use. Over the next 12 to 18 months, we will be adding more trees to establish the woodland area further. Currently we have a three-acre field that’s surrounded by trees and hedging.”

Second generation Tom heads up JFJ Wood Flooring. He adds: “We know that sometimes our flooring customers want to see more than the FREE samples we post out to them. This new addition of the recreational area means that people coming from further afield will be able to make it a day out. The picnic benches make it a perfect spot for lunch and the views are exceptional.

“Both my dad and I hope that this will be a popular destination with customers, staff and people in the village, especially as the weather gets better.

“We really value where we work. But we are happy to share it! We have a family of swallows who live in the eaves of the building. They are in Africa at the moment, but we are rigging up a camera to get a ‘birds eye view’ of their return in the spring.”

The addition of the woodland area at the HQ and joinery shop for JF Joinery and JFJ Wood Flooring demonstrates the company’s commitment to both the environment and its local community.
