Continuous football match raises £15k for MND Scotland

We recently brought you the news of a team from Decorative Door Products (DDP), the Scottish division of RegaLead, were aiming to set a new Guinness World Record while also fundraising for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Scotland by taking part in a constant game of 7-a-side football.

The fundraising event, which took place over 20 and 21 September, was a huge success, with over 300 participating, and together raising over £15k for MND Scotland, exceeding all the team’s expectations.

The charity was chosen because of Kendra Law, the wife of Production Operative James Law, who was diagnosed with the disease in June 2023.

Chris Regan, Finance Director at Regalead, was one of the team who help set up the event.

He said: “What an amazing day. It was easily one of the best things I’ve ever seen and had the privilege to be apart of. Seeing the Hawick community come together to support Kendra and James was incredible.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated, all our sponsors, the generous raffle prizes, and all the contributions to the event. And a special mention to Hawick Linden RFC for allowing us to use your facilities on both days.

“A huge thank you also goes to the team at DDP/RegaLead who helped out, especially the ones who stayed until the end, even dragging in family members to help ensure the event was a success.

“And finally, thank you to both James and Kendra for allowing us to hold such an amazing event in their name. And to Kevin Strathdee, Tom Coghill and Shona Redpath. What you achieved in just eight weeks was immense and you should be very proud of yourselves for organising such a special event for such a fantastic cause.”

The event was aiming to break a Guinness World Record for longest continuous football match. The event organisers will now submit all of the evidence to Guinness World Records over the coming weeks – which contains nine and a half hours worth of footage and photos of the event, to see if they have managed to break the record, but are hopeful that they will get confirmation that we will be record holders in the coming weeks.

The JustGiving page is still available to take donations. Should you wish to donate visit: Team DDP is fundraising for MND Scotland (justgiving.com).
