£21,000 Raised for Furniture Makers’ Company at Charity Golf Day

The 51st Teesside Golf Day, organised by independent furniture retailer Barker and Stonehouse, has once again broken records – raising £21,000 for the furnishing industry’s charity, The Furniture Makers’ Company.

The long-running annual event, first held in 1974 by Richard Barker, took place in August at Catterick Garrison Golf Club in North Yorkshire.

More than 80 players from across the UK furniture and furnishings trade took part in the tournament which took place under scorching 33-degree sun, making it another memorable day of networking, sport, and fundraising.

The day began with a welcome lunch before a shotgun start to the tournament. Guests enjoyed excellent weather and competitive golf, followed by an evening of prize giving, dinner, raffle, and charity auction.

The winners of the cups were:

  •  1–9 Handicap – Paul Olivier – 35
  • 10–15 Handicap – John Bianchi – 38
  • 16–28 Handicap – Oliver Keeting – 38
  • Veteran – Peter Mallinson – 33
  • Best Team – James Barker, Paul Gundry, Charles Clinkard and Tobin James – 113
  • Best Gross – Paul Gundry – 39
  • Nearest the Pin – Dave Myles
  • Longest Drive – Gareth Williams
  • Best Visitor – Richard Parnell – 39 points

James Barker, Managing Director of Barker and Stonehouse, said: “We are thrilled that this year’s golf day has raised a record-breaking £21,000. The generosity and enthusiasm of our industry colleagues never ceases to amaze me. The funds will make a huge difference to The Furniture Makers’ Company, whose work we are proud to support.”

Debbie Johnson, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, added: “Barker and Stonehouse have been loyal and long-term supporters of our charity. To see the Teesside Golf Day go from strength to strength, and this year raise over £21,000, is truly fantastic. This support ensures we can continue providing essential welfare grants for people in our industry.”

The next event takes place on 12 August 2026.
